FP1:

Back from the summer break and, so far, 6 drivers will have grid penalties for changes of engine parts out of the allocation.

Others have engine upgrades but theirs are within their allocation so incur no penalties. Hamiltonís seems to have created more problems than anyone and he had a couple of faults that kept him in the garage for most of the session.Mind you, that sort of thing hasnít caused him undue problems in the past.

Nicholas Lafiti drove Russellís car in his session. (He may well take over from Kubica in 2020.)

This is a long circuit so differences in performance is shown in exaggerated gaps in the lap times. However, Ferrariís one second advantage over Red Bull might be significant, although it should be noted that both Mercedes drovers were the only ones setting their times on the medium tyre and not the soft like everyone else.

FP3:

Ferrari appear to be running away with this. But which one will get pole position and will team orders come into play?

Hamilton put his left rear onto the kerb and unsettled the car as he turned into Las Fagnes. He corrected but ran wide and continued correcting onto the runoff, that has no grip so ploughed on to the tyre wall. The left front was well destroyed, as was his pride, no doubt, but as good a driver as he normally is, I donít like the guy so I donít care!!

Albon will be starting at the back due to loads of new bits on his car, so he spent the session getting the best setup for the race.

 Q1:

Quite eventful: Started off with Kubicaís Mercedes engine going pop in dramatic form – great billowing smoke and fire when he stopped! Out came the red flags.

Towards the end Giovinazzi pulled over with a failed Ferrari engine. Red flags again but with less than a minute left that was the end of the session.
