FP2:

GiovinazziŐs car was fixed in time, but this time it was KvyatŐs car that spent most of the session in the garage.  Leclerc stopped with half an hour to go for Ňcooling system checksÓ – funny how the way to do that was to let half the coolant out all over the garage floor. More like Ňchecking a coolant leakÓ if you ask me!

FP3:

Everything was going well for the 3rd free practise session with everyone out for the last 10 minutes or so (while Williams carried on with what is effectively a test session to try and wrench the car out of the doldrums). The, with about 5 minutes to go Albon did what a couple of other drivers had done and ran wide at the last corner and got onto the artificial turf. Where the other drivers had sensibly abandoned the lap at this point, Albon kept his foot in and attempted to muscle the car back onto the track to complete the lap. It didnŐt work. He got into a tank-slapper and lost control, putting the side of the car into the barrier and comprehensibly destroyed half the car. The team will check the monocoque over and determine if they can continue using it, but even if it survived I canŐt see them getting it out by the start of Q1.  The subsequent red flag messed many drivers u pas they ventured to get a better time, especially Hamilton and Verstappen. Whither the likes of Ricciardo and the Haas pair would have made significant inroads into the timesheets we shall never know – well, until Q1 of course!!

GRID:

Although Giovinazzi and Albon failed to qualify, I expect the FIA will let them race based on their practise times.

Assuming no penalties are awarded the grid will look like thisÉ

            RACE:

á      Gasly and Red Bull get the extra point for fastest lap.  Gasly, being well ahead of 7th place, pitted with two laps to go and without losing a place, put on the soft tyres and went, successfully, for the fastest lap and the extra point.

á      Hulkenberg retired when his device that recovers energy from the braking mechanism failed.

á      Norris and Kvyat both had damaged cars due to a first-lap collision and they were getting nothing out of the race so they retired to A) save the mechanical parts, and B) get a free component change at the next race.
