Individual driverís tyre choices:

Pirelli has abandoned the individual driver tyre choices for 2020 and simply issuing three compounds of tyre for all teams to use.

All the drivers will get 2 sets of hard compound tyres (white), 3 sets of mediums (yellow), and 8 sets of softs (red).

FP1:

      Kubica drove Raikkonenís Alfa.

Normally free practice doesnít give much indication of how things really are, but this time it seems this session isnít far off. Mercedes out in front with Racing Point behind but not close.Red Bull and Ferrari slower than one would expect, Haas a little quicker, with Alpha Romeo and Williams at the back.

Gaslyís car spent the session in bits in the garage as they struggled to rectify a power unit ďanomalyĒ.

FP2:

Rain affected so times, etc. are meaningless, but provided for you by way of continuity of service!

Positions 14th to 20th are arbitrary based on the order the drivers ventured out on their exploratory laps.

FP3:

A fairly representative session, I think, although if Red Bull can sort out their handling problems (understeer, mostly) then they will be higher up the order this afternoon.

Q1:

Very light rain at first which then stopped, but the track evolved considerably towards the end mixing things nicely for those who came out late.

Both Williams through but Alfa Romeo were disastrous.

Q2:

Both Red Bull drivers complained that the handling on their cars was poor. Verstappen said it was changing lap by lap, and often you cold see him understeering quite noticeably.

Gasly had engine problems left over from Q1 and was struggling, but still did than his teammate (see Q1)!

Gasly didnít leave the garage as the team tried to find out what was wrong with his engine.

RACE:

I just love changing conditions. What a shame it didnít take a few laps longer to dry, and then even more of a shame it didnít start raining again later. Nothing serious – just enough to force them onto intermediate tyres.I like to see who would have the courage and skills to come in first to change tyres and steal a march on the rest.Jenson Button was a master of that sort of thing. Oh well. It was still an excellent race.

Hamilton was magnificent out in front and changed to soft tyres four laps from the end (he was under no threat from Verstappen) and got the extra point for fastest lap.

The Haas team instructed their drivers to come into the pits to change to slick tyres on the formation lap, which is prohibited and so received a ten-second penalty for both cars at the end dropping them both one place each.
