Pirelli has abandoned the individual driver tyre choices for 2020 and simply issuing three compounds of tyre for all teams to use.

All the drivers will get 2 sets of hard compound tyres (white), 3 sets of mediums (yellow), and 8 sets of softs (red).

FP1:

Vettel had an intercooler snag and his car was in the garage in bits thorough all the session after he’d done a couple of installation laps at the beginning.

** All Hulkenberg’s results will count fro Perez.

FP2:

·      Vettel is having a bad day.  After the intercooler problem cost him FP1 he went out in this session only to find something wrong with the foot pedals and they spent some time fixing that. Then by the time he went out for a run on soft tyres the track temperature was higher than the tyres could cope with and on the only run his tyres might have got him a representative lap time he ran wide and that was pretty much that. By that time everyone else were doing long runs.

·      Albon was doing very well when he pitched into Stowe and the back gave up the ghost. He managed to catch it initially but then he lost it and sped off towards the barrier. It’s a long way from the track at this point so he’d scrubbed a fair amount of speed off by the time he made contact. The car was well bent but he was basically alright, although they took him to the medical centre as a matter of routine.

·      Stroll’s time was set before the track got too hot, but one shouldn’t take anything away from the lad – he did good!

·      Norris lost some time in the garage when he had a minor brake problem. By the time he came out the track was past its best.

FP3:

·      A problem with Albon’s car had it on the stands in the garage for ¾ of the session.

·      Vettel returned to his garage with a problem in the footwell – again!

·      The only session that might give any idea about how qualifying might go, so will we see Russell through to Q2 again? Bottas beating Hamilton, The Racing Point up there challenging the top two teams as Ferrari fall away again? Watch this space!!!!!

Q1:

·      The field are really close this session. A shade over one second covering the top 15!!

·      Russell reported for apparently not slowing for a yellow, but it seems that he may have run that sector slower and still improved his lap time.

·      Vettel had his last lap time deleted for exceeding track limits.

·      Under investigation after this session were Ocon, for impeding Raikkonen in Q1; Russell for possible yellow flag infringement; and Leclerc, for unsafe release in front of Stroll.

·      Oh well department: Whatever you may think of Hamilton out of the car, he’s very good in it.

RACE:

Amended result due to my computer inexplicably putting Grosjean in 12th when Russell was already there. It’s what comes of doing the results at the end of a long day. Sorry.

All rather interesting over the last two laps… At least four drivers had front left punctures and although Verstappen didn’t have a puncture his tyres were going off and they decided to change to fresh rubber so he could go for fastest lap and the extra point, which he got. As he was pitting so Bottas had his tyre failure so Verstappen took second, and then Hamilton had his but Verstappen was too far back to take the lead. Meanwhile Sainz dropped down from 5th with his tyre failure.
