FP3:

As the last practice session before qualifying it could be said that this is a better indication then FP1 and 2 as to what’s going to happen, but maybe not today. For example, the soft tyres were only at their best for one lap at qualifying speed and giving up the ghost altogether around ten laps in, blistering badly. Because of this Ricciardo, for example, was doing well but had to back off because Norris was in his way in Sector three, and then his next fast lap was compromised as his tyres had given of their best so he ended up an unrepresentative position in 14th. Norris, by the way, set his fastest time on medium compound tyres!!!

GRID:

·      Ocon gets a penalty for impeding Russell in Q1.

·      What has happened to Ferrari? Some say… They haven’t done particularly well since they were caught cheating last season, but even then they weren’t in this much trouble. And Vettel in particular appears to be driving like someone who is upset with being dropped by his team. Oh, wait…..

·      And what is going on at Alfa Romeo? Or indeed any of the Ferrari-engined teams. Ah, yes, see above!
