FP1:

Overcast but dry, a busy session with cars on track throughout. Both Haas cars were blackflagged at one point as their IT systems had failed and there was no telemetry to the FIA and no comms to the drivers. They got it fixed though. Sainz was in the garage for almost all the session as they tried to fix a power unit snag. He got out in the dying minutes so his FP2 will be really busy. As usual the Monte Carlo circuit has highlighted chassis weaknesses. Both Williams and Racing Point suffered.

FP2:

Another busy session. Nothing very special happened, although Gasly and Albon are further up the timesheet than I would have forecast, and the Renaults are further down!!

FP3:

20 minutes in and Vettel put it in the wall at the exit to St Devote, destroying the front left corner. How badly this will affect his qualifying remains to be seen. The rest of the session showed just how good or bad some of the cars are. Even the likes of Albon and Gasly get good timesin good cars.

Q1:

It all started much as one would expect, but then Vettel, who was struggling to get his tyres to work, started to push too hard. He scraped the barrier half way through the swimming pool complex – on the straight bit!!! Then Leclerc missed the weighbridge when he should have stopped and had to be pushed back. After that the team decided he had a good enough time to get through to Q2 – how many times has that happened? As expected by everyone except Ferrari he slipped down the order until he got to 15th place, and ironically it was Vettel, who went into the last two minutes in 17th place, who crossed the line on his last lap in pole, knocking his teammate out. What a shambles.

All very frantic, and by the end we had two drivers reported to the stewards: Giovinazzi and Gasly for impeding Hulkenberg and Grosjean respectively.

Q3:

Bottas led after the first run, but Hamiltonís last lap was a stunner and 1/10th faster.

Vettel, no doubt getting desperate, hit the barrier again. This time a glancing blow at the exit of Tabac.
