FP1:

Everyone out straight away to do their installation laps, some doing more than others, but nobody setting any times. When eventually they did start doing timed runs there was the usual 1st race of the year flurry of activity with times gradually tumbling down to where they were expected to be. Notably absent for the time sheet were the two McLarens which both had problems with their exhausts. Eventually, after an hour or so they both got out and set quite reasonable times considering.  I expect they were particularly pleased to be faster than the Honda-powered Toro Rossos. Other than that there was nothing special going on that we could see from our sofas, except that the Mercedes pair seem to have at least this session in the bag. LetÕs hope itÕs not a case of Ōhere we go againÕ!!!

FP2:

Apart from having to stop the session after 48 minutes when a cable became dislodged across the start/finish line this was a mostly uneventful session. The stewards wanted to talk to Bottas and Raikkonen regarding an incident on track early on when it looked like the Ferrari driver made a mess of letting the much faster Mercedes through but I doubt anything will be made of it.

FP3:

Session started wet, dried gradually throughout and your time depended on when you went out, so not at all of any use.  Indeed, Force India, seeing that nothing was to be gained by risking their cars in the damp conditions didnÕt send their cars out at all.

Q3:

Bottas put a wheel on the grass and spun it into the wall comprehensibly wrecking the right side of his car. They red-flagged the session before anyone had set a time while they cleared up the mess. If they get that MercedesÕ gearbox into the race tomorrow IÕll be amazed, so look out for a grid penalty for him.
