FP2:

·      Not long into the session Grosjean had his left rear tyre tread start to break up. The tyre stayed inflated but the flying bits of rubber damaged the floor and left debris all over the place.  The Red Flag came out to clear up, and Grosjean got back to the pits but there was too much damage for him to come out again – hence his relatively slow time.

·      A couple of minor incidents, like Vandoorne leaving the pit and stopping at the end of the pit lane with a loose wheel, and Vettel slowly returning to his pit when his extinguisher leaked into his seat. But both came out after only a short delay.

·      Towards the end Verstappen had an engine problem and his session was curtailed.

FP3:

·      Gasly stopped trackside on his first proper lap and reported a loss of power. The marshals pushed him off and as he was close to the end of the pitlane the car was recovered to the garage where it stayed for the rest of the session as they fiddled about with the battery, etc.

·      Verstappen stopped before the end but he’d already blown Hamilton away so no worries there. No doubt the Mercedes and Ferraris will up the boost on their engines for qualifying and put the Red Bulls back in their place!

Q1:

What is going on at Toro Rosso. First we see Gasly’s car in the garage, nobody working on it and no engine attached thereto. Fairly obviously not going anywhere soon, and Gasly on the pitwall in jeans and team shirt. 10 minutes later Gasly is rushing off to get into his fireproofs while there is hectic goings on at the back at the car. Then Gasly is back in his ‘civvies’ and the car is still on its stands.

Q2:

·      Quite early on Hartley stopped trackside with “no power”.

·      Massa and Stroll did not set a time in the first runs, Alonso and Vandoorne diobvious had no intention of bothering since they had big penalties anyway.

GRID:

·      Vandoorne and Alonso had a load of penalties and Gasly picked up a couple so they took over the rearmost three places.

·      Verstappen was not penalised for impeding Bottas.

·      Ricciardo picked up penalties for a engine change and Hartley had places added to his gualfyig position.

·      They have GOT to do something about these penalties. It’s making a mockery of the sport and as for the objective of saving money, that’s completely failed.
