FP1:

About three quarters of the way through the session and thereís a familiar sight – Alonso parked at the side of the track!Seems that the hydraulic pressure dropped and that affects lots of things, including important bits inside the engine so he was told to stop and switch off immediately.

At least he got further than Sainz, whose engine in the Toro Rosso expired on his installation lap and he lost the entire session.

Mercedes seemed a bit happier than at Monaco. It remains to be seen if itíll last all weekend!

FP2:

McLaren mechanics were working on Alonsoís car throughout most of the session after his breakdown in FP1 but he did get out and managed 9 laps – and right at the end he put in a 1m14.245s lap which may have been one and a bitseconds off Raikkonenís pace but it netted him 7th!!!

Red Bull didnít have a good time at all, with Ricciardo having an engine failure after only 8 laps and Verstappen suffering a gearbox failure with 20 minutes to go. He stopped on track and they had to red flag the session to get his car safely out of the way.

But Grosjean has slipped back to the sort of radio messages the team chastised him over last season.Every little thing seems to bring forth a real old rant.Even to the extent of swearing about his teammate.I expect the team boss will take him to one side again this evening!

FP3:

If this session is any indication of how qualifying is going to go Mercedes need to turn their engines up more than Ferrari!!!

Palmerís case is not being helped by Hulkenberg blowing him away in the same car.

Q1:

Everybody used ultrasoft tyres except the two Ferraris.

Wehrlein crashed on his last lap and the yellows came out when Vandoorne, Stroll and Magnussen were trying to go faster – but I donít think it made any difference!

Q3:

Hamiltonís lap is, as far as I know, the fastest anyone has ever been around this circuit.Love him or hate him, you have to admit that is pretty good. And this pole position equals Ayrton Sennaís record of 65 poles – for which the Senna family awarded Hamilton with a race-worn Ayrton Senna helmet.
